Giraffe Encounter

In a quiet corner of the park next to the waters of Lake Chabot you will find giraffes! There are four distinct species of giraffe – here at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom you will find both Reticulated and Masai giraffe. Peewee the Masai Giraffe was born in November 2023 and Chich the Reticulated Giraffe was born in July 2023. These young males will continue growing until they are around 7 years old. Masai Giraffes have darker, more jagged spot patterns while Reticulated Giraffes have orange-brown spots with clear white lines between them.

Did you know that every giraffe has a unique pattern of spots, just like a human fingerprint? As the tallest land mammal, a giraffe’s long legs and long neck allow them to access high foliage, beyond the reach of most other larger browsers. This also means that reaching down to the ground is tricky for them. They must spread their front legs out to drink water from the ground

Visit the giraffe dock for a chance to feed a giraffe! You’ll see their purplish-black tongues reach for leaves as they stretch as long as 18 inches. Giraffe feedings are available at select times only – check the Six Flags app or a show schedule for more information.
