Pre-visit Prep

Ready to dive into a day of fun? Here’s the lowdown on what to pack to stay cool and comfortable.

Sun Protection – First, sun protection is key, so don’t forget your sunscreen, hats, stylish shades, and UPF clothing to shield you from the sun’s powerful rays. Long-sleeve rash guards provide great sun protection and help keep you cool when they are wet.

Pro-Parenting Tip: Grab a long-sleeved swim shirt for your little ones. Not only will it keep their life jacket from rubbing against their underarms, but it also makes it easier to apply sunscreen to a wiggly toddler.

Swimwear – The right swimwear is a must! Choose a suit that is comfortable and secure. Grab some water-friendly shoes, pack those trusty towels, and consider a waterproof phone case to capture all the action without any worries.

With these essentials in tow, you’re all set to soak up the fun and make a big splash at the park’s awesome attractions!

Beating the Heat: Strategies for Staying Cool

Arrive Early – To make the most of your day and beat the midday heat, arrive at the waterpark early. The park opens at 11 a.m., so aim to be there when the gates open. This way, you can enjoy the rides and attractions before the crowds arrive.

Take Breaks – Use shaded areas and rest zones to take a break from the sun. Rent a cabana to create your own private rest-and-relaxation station. Some rentals even come with refreshing drinks and your own personal wait staff!

Break time is a great time to reapply sunscreen, drink water and cool down before diving back into the excitement.

Go With the Flow – Here’s one of our best water park tips: Take advantage of the large water attractions when the midday sun is in full force. You and your family can cool off by riding the waves at Hurricane Bay and floating on the river at Castaway Creek. Little ones will love playing at Splashwater Island.

Stay Hydrated – Be sure to check out all of the restaurant and dining options Hurricane Harbor has to offer. Fuel your crew with tasty treats, kid-friendly fare and, of course, LOTS OF WATER!

The Ice House is a great choice for frozen treats! Try a refreshing Tiki Cup Float or Dole Soft Serve. All Hurricane Harbor restaurants offer bottled water, so be sure to drink water early and often!

Stay Safe – As temperatures rise, it’s crucial to keep an eye out for heat-related illnesses. Be mindful of warning signs like excessive sweating, dizziness, headaches, and nausea, which could signal dehydration or heat exhaustion. Pay extra attention to the kids in your group. Children are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

If you or someone in your family is feeling unwell, head to a first-aid station to check in with a professional.

Apply Sunscreen Regularly – It’s a good idea to apply sunscreen before you get to the park. This way, you (and impatient kiddos) can head straight to your favorite attraction!

Reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours. Experts recommend applying sunscreen more frequently if you’ve been swimming, sweating heavily, or towel-drying. It’s easy to lose track of time when you are having fun in the sun, so set a timer on your phone or watch to remind you when it’s time for more sunscreen.

Apply sunscreen generously to all exposed skin areas, including commonly overlooked areas like ears, the back of the neck, and tops of feet. This helps ensure continuous protection and reduces the risk of sunburn and skin damage.

If you run out of sunscreen, we’ve got you covered! Tobago Trading has all the essentials for a great day in the park.
