How to Beat the Heat at Canada’s Wonderland

There’s nothing better than a summer day at Canada’s Wonderland... except perhaps adding in a water park visit!

There’s nothing better than a summer day at Canada’s Wonderland... except perhaps adding in a water park visit!

There are plenty of ways to stay cool while making the most of your visit. Whether you're planning a full day of thrills, bringing the kids for some family fun or just looking for an excuse to grab another ICEE, here are our favourite ways to beat the heat this summer.

Cool Off at Splash Works

Let's start with the obvious one.

When the temperatures climb, Splash Works is the place to be. Included with park admission, the 20-acre water park is packed with ways to cool down, whether you're floating along the lazy river, tackling thrilling waterslides, relaxing in the outdoor wave pool or watching your little ones splash around in one of the kids' areas.

A lot of guests like to spend the morning riding coasters before heading over to Splash Works during the hottest part of the afternoon. It's a great way to cool off before jumping back into the rest of your day.

  • Pro tip: Season Passholders and Members get early access to Splash Works so be sure to come early!

Treat Yourself to an ICEE

No summer park visit feels complete without an ICEE.

Cherry and Blue Raspberry are always fan favourites (although we'll let you debate which one is better), and there's nothing quite like walking through the park with an icy drink in hand on a hot afternoon.

If you have a Season Pass or Membership, check out the Drink Plan Plus. It includes fountain beverages, hot chocolate, coffee and ICEEs throughout the season - making it an easy way to stay refreshed every visit.

Let the Coasters Do the Cooling

Hear us out on this one.

Sure, roller coasters aren't technically air conditioning, but flying through the air at over 100 km/h creates a pretty great breeze. Whether you're soaring over the hills of Leviathan, hanging over the edge on Yukon Striker or racing through AlpenFury, you'll probably forget all about the heat for a few minutes.

Try Our Water Rides!

Few things feel better on a hot day than getting absolutely drenched.

Hop aboard Timberwolf Falls or White Water Canyon for a splash-filled adventure through the rapids. If you'd rather stay on solid ground, head over to the Timberwolf Falls bridge beside the ride. Every time a raft comes down the final drop, guests nearby get a refreshing mist or, depending on the splash, a full-on soaking.

It's one of the hidden ways to cool off.

Take a Break in the Air Conditioning

Sometimes the best way to recharge is to simply step inside for a few minutes.

Canada’s Wonderland has plenty of retail locations where you can cool off while browsing everything from apparel and souvenirs to ride merchandise and sweet treats. If you’re ready for a meal, head to Lazy Bear Lodge, where you can grab some delicious barbecue and enjoy it inside the air-conditioned dining area. Even a quick break from the sun can help you cool down and feel ready for your next adventure.

Stay Hydrated

This one's important.

Walking around the park all day, riding attractions and spending time in the summer sun can be tiring, so don't forget to drink water throughout your visit - even if you don't feel thirsty yet.

Bring a refillable water bottle and make use of our water fountains or stop by one of the many dining locations throughout the park to grab a drink. Your future self will thank you.

How To Dress for the Day in Canada’s Wonderland

The right outfit can make all the difference.

Lightweight clothing, comfortable shoes, a hat and sunglasses can help keep you cool while you're exploring the park. And don't forget the sunscreen - reapplying throughout the day is just as important as putting it on before you arrive.

  • Pro Tip: Planning to visit Splash Works or tackle the water rides? Toss a change of clothes in your bag. You'll be glad you did.

Make the Most of Your Summer Visit

Summer days at Canada's Wonderland are all about making memories - and a little heat doesn't have to get in the way.

Whether you're floating through Splash Works, catching a breeze on your favourite coaster, standing in the Timberwolf Falls splash zone or enjoying an ICEE between rides, there are plenty of ways to stay cool while soaking up everything the park has to offer.
