Our Favorite Moments from 2014
It’s been a great season at Six Flags Great Adventure. Before we bid farewell on November 2, we’d like to celebrate by looking back at some of our favorite moments of the year.
1. We introduced Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom.
During the summer we launched the world’s tallest drop ride. Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom offered unique aerial views of the park and Philadelphia skyline. The record-breaking structure features a 30-second rise up 415 feet in the air, a brief pause to check out the view, and an incredible free-fall back down at 90 miles per hour. The massive vertical towers were built on the face of Kingda Ka, another one of our record-breaking rides.
2. We hosted exciting events.
Many different festivals and concerts came to the park this season. We welcomed musical artists of all different genres, including Jesse McCartney, Jason Derulo, Rita Ora, MAGIC!, Fred Hammond and Tenth Avenue North. The MIKE AND IKE® Summer Concert Series also brought Jake Miller, Nick Tangorra, R5, Sabrina Carpenter, and other young musicians. We also tested your athletic abilities with events like the Survival Race Mud Run, Zombie Race, and Komen Kolor 5K.
3. We were voted one of the country’s best theme parks.
We competed against 19 other theme parks in the country to be the USA TODAY Reader’s Choice best theme park. After the votes were counted, we came out in the top two, along with our sister park Six Flags Magic Mountain. It was a great honor for us to be recognized as one of the country’s top locations for thrills.
4. We announced the Looping Dragon coming next year.
In August we revealed the next big thrill coming to the park. Looping Dragon will make its debut in 2015. This high-speed looping coaster will send riders through a series of stomach-tightening 360-degree revolutions. Standing seven stories high, riders will first swing up each side of the giant loop and then spiral around forward and backward.
