Unveil the Whale: The Pink Whale Returns to The Great Escape
Years after removal, the Storytown icon returns
Gearing up for its 60th anniversary in 2014, The Great Escape is pleased to announce the return of the iconic Pink Whale for guests of all ages to enjoy. The beloved attraction was a Storytown, USA centerpiece dating back to 1954. It served as the backdrop for thousands of family pictures and created lasting family memories.
In 2005, the whale was removed from the park to make way for the children’s area that is now Timbertown. For years, guests have asked for its return. In 2013, the “Save the Pink Whale” movement attracted thousands of passionate supporters. The crusade succeeded and the whale is once again available in the park for visitors young and old to pose for pictures, catch a glimpse of Captain Ahab and, if just for a moment, become a kid again.
“We are extremely proud of our Storytown heritage here at The Great Escape,” said Eric Gilbert, park president. “The Pink Whale symbolizes the simplicity and charm from which our park was built. We are delighted to welcome back this historic attraction and offer the opportunity for generations of families to share in this unique experience.”
The park is hosting an “Unveil the Whale” party to celebrate the return of the Pink Whale. On Thursday, July 11 at 11:00AM, all guests are welcome to a “PINK” celebration and official grand opening of the completely refurbished Pink Whale.” All guests wearing the color pink will receive admission for just kid’s price, $43.99, with $5 of each ticket donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
Submit your favorite family photo at the historic Pink Whale for the chance to be the official grand opening family and receive four 2013 Season Passes to The Great Escape. Visit facebook.com/savethepinkwhale to submit photos today.
