Six Flags Great Adventure Kicks Off 2011 Season of Thrills
Thrillseekers will “stand up” to their fear with GREEN LANTERN - coaster debuts Memorial Day Weekend
Six Flags Great Adventure will kick off the 2011 season April 9 and is poised to deliver another season of thrilling family fun with the all-new Safari Discoveries, the newly-themed Safari Kids area, spectacular shows and the introduction of GREEN LANTERN, a stand-up coaster themed around the DC Comics Super Hero, scheduled to debut Memorial Day Weekend.
Six Flags Great Adventure offers fun for the entire family with 13 thrilling roller coasters such as Kingda Ka and El Toro, three children’s areas, interactive animal shows and a sensational concert line-up. 2011 season highlights include:
- New! Safari Discoveries – Guests can go a little wild inside the theme park this season with the all-new Safari Discoveries located in The Golden Kingdom, which offers a glimpse into the world of exotic animals and up-close animal encounters. The new area will feature a California sea lion exhibit and underwater viewing pool; a walk-thru aviary – Parakeet Paradise; a Wild Safari nursery featuring exotic animal babies; and “Please Touch” ambassadors showcasing animals such as a spotted skunk, giant Flemish rabbit, hedgehogs, snakes and more. Debuts April 9.
- Newly-Themed Safari Kids - Parents and young children will experience the newly-themed area “Safari Kids” featuring rides and attractions including Safari Tours car ride, Air Safari plane ride, Sky Zooma balloon ride, Jumpin’ Joey bounce ride, Bugaboo sit and spin and Raja’s Rickshaws scrambler. Safari Kids will also feature an all-new bird show “Extreme Raptors,” retail location Wild Things and the Oasis Café serving kosher cuisine. Debuts April 9.
- New! Extreme Raptors Bird Show – Guests will be awed by the strength, speed and natural instincts of magnificent birds of prey as they swoop through the Adventure Theater in the newly-themed Safari Kids area. Guests will have the opportunity to see these feathered friends up-close and learn how our actions can help in the survival of these mighty birds. Debuts May 28.
New! Stand up to your fear with GREEN LANTERN
DC Comics’ Super Hero GREEN LANTERN will focus the might of his Power Ring at Six Flags Great Adventure with the launch of an exciting new thrill ride. Towering 15 stories high with over three quarters of a mile of twisting green steel, this new stand-up coaster will rank among the tallest and fastest roller coasters of its kind anywhere in the world. Unlike traditional seated coasters, GREEN LANTERN is designed to allow passengers to stand throughout the entire course of the ride that delivers an experience unlike any other. The two minute and thirty second thrill begins with a pulse-quickening 45-degree vertical drop before rocketing riders through five inversions – including a 121-foot-tall loop, a 103-foot dive loop, a 72-foot inclined loop and twisted double corkscrews. Scheduled to debut Memorial Day Weekend in the Boardwalk section.
