Six Flags Great Adventure and Cure Kids Cancer Join Forces for The Second Annual 'A Walk In The Park'
Guests Who Raise $50 Will Receive a Free Ticket to the Theme Park
Six Flags Great Adventure will host Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags, Inc., and Cure Kids Cancer for "A Walk in the Park," June 14. The organizations will again work together in an effort to raise public awareness and funding for childhood cancers. 12 Six Flags Parks will hold "A Walk in the Park" fundraiser this season allowing for millions of steps to be taken towards a goal of $350,000 to help find cures for pediatric cancers.
John Marino, Jackson local, will serve as the ambassador for Six Flags Great Adventure's walk. Marino is 15 years old and is currently undergoing cancer treatments at Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital in New Brunswick. He will serve as the voice and the face for more than 10,000 children who will be diagnosed with cancer this year; the tens of thousands who are undergoing treatments; and the hundreds of youth who are forever coined "cancer survivors."
Mr. G, the PIX News at Ten weather expert, will help kick off the walk and captain a team. Mr. G acted as the emcee for the inaugural "A Walk in the Park" last year and will again lead the 2K stretch with the park's ambassador, John Marino. Mr. G has been delivering forecasts on New York television for almost 30 years. When he is not forecasting, Mr. G can often be seen running in Central Park and has run in 28 New York City Marathons.
"Six Flags Great Adventure is proud to be partnered with Cure Kids Cancer to host the second annual A Walk in the Park," said Mark Kane, Park President of Six Flags Great Adventure, Wild Safari and Hurricane Harbor. "We hope to bring further awareness and to support children and families that are affected by cancer."
Six Flags Great Adventure is not only opening its gates to Cure Kids Cancer, but is asking guests to open their hearts, embrace the cause and to fight the battle on behalf of sick children in their own neighborhoods.
Guests can register as individual walkers at walkintheparks.org for $15 or join a team for $10. All guests that raise $50 will get a free ticket to the park. Guests may also register on June 14 at Six Flags Great Adventure beginning at 8 a.m. The walk will kick off at 9 a.m. at the main gate. For more information visit sixflags.com.
