Six Flags Great Adventure Hosts the mtvU VMA Tour
Featuring All Time Low and The White Tie Affair
Six Flags Great Adventure will welcome the mtvU Video Music Awards Tour on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at the Northern Star Arena. Up-and-comers All Time Low and The White Tie Affair will headline the concert for MTV University's 24 hour college network. Opening performances will include Island Records' teen artists, Bamboo Shoots and three of the mtvU VMA Best Philly Breakout Artist finalists.
All Time Low formed in 2003 and continues to be a powerhouse in pop-punk fusion. Their latest album, Nothing Personal reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and hit No. 1 on the Top Independent Albums chart, the Top Modern Rock Albums chart and the Top Rock Albums chart. The album's second single, "Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't)," quickly made it on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The band was also added to MTV's Big 10 Playlist and Hits Playlists, featured on MTV's Discover and Download and earned Alternative Press Magazine's praise as Band of the Year 2008.
The White Tie Affair, a band known for their catchy pop-rock-electronica beats and dynamic live performances, will join the lineup. They released their debut album, Walk This Way in 2008 with Epic Records and the album's lead single, "Candle (Sick and Tired)" climbed The Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other singles include "Allow me to Introduce Myself…Mr. Right" and "The Letdown," which were featured on MTV's TRL and The Hills.
All Time Low and The White Tie Affair will join MTV's Director of Music & Talent, Tuma Basa to form an expert panel of judges that will decide the outcome of the mtvU Best Philly Breakout Artist Award. The competition was created by Comcast and MTV2 to recognize local artists. The winner will gain exposure on MTV during the live VMAs Sunday September 13, 2009 and also showcased on MTV2's Rail N Rock or Sucker Free. Guests will see a unique battle between the top three of more than 150 bands that entered the competition.
Bamboo Shoots, an American five-piece musical group based out of Brooklyn, New York and suburban New Jersey, will also take the stage. They signed with Epic Records in 2007 after winning the mtvU Best Music on Campus contest out of a pool of thousands of bands. They are known for their dueling, two-person rhythm section and their South Asian identity and influence. The band's debut album is scheduled to be released this year and will include songs "Wrong All Along," "The World is Beautiful" and "Speeding Star."
Island Records will bring their trio of up-and-coming teen artists to showcase their talents on stage. Kristinia Debarge is an American R&B-pop singer whose latest hit single "Goodbye" from her debut album Exposed is burning up the charts. American pop-country singer Jessie James is taking the country music world by storm with her hit single "Wanted" from her self-titled debut album and Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber's upcoming debut album My World has already produced the hit single "One Time."
The mtvU VMA Tour will hit Six Flags Great Adventure August 28, 2009 at 5 p.m. Guests will enjoy The White Tie Affair, All Time Low and more, free with theme park admission.
