Rock and Roll Royalty Yes and Asia Perform Live at
Six Flags Great Adventure
Opening act Geri Mingori Band will kick off the concert
Legendary British rock bands Yes and Asia will team up to perform their greatest hits live at Six Flags Great Adventure. The bands will take the stage July 26 at 6 p.m. in the Northern Star Arena.
Yes was formed in 1968 and has maintained their reputation for being a progressive and groundbreaking rock band. They will perform selections from hit albums including Close to the Edge, Going for the One and Tales from Topographic Oceans. Yes' success is marked by songs such as "Owner of a Lonely Heart," which was number one in Billboard and "Cinema," which won a Grammy award for the Best Rock Instrumental. They have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and continue to be a dominant force in music. Original Yes band members Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White will join new vocalist Benoit David and keyboardist Oliver Wakeman for a showcase of dynamic rock.
Yes' innovative sounds will be joined by special guest Asia, featuring keyboardist Geoff Downes, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Carl Palmer and bassist/vocalist John Wetton. Asia released their first album in 1982 and it became the best-selling release of the year. With songs such as "Heat of The Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell," the supergroup's debut album was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for nine weeks. Together and separately, the four original members of Asia have sold more than 120 million records. In 2006, the band went on a world tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album and the band's creation.
Yes and Asia will perform music from their hit albums as part of Six Flags Great Adventure's Summer Concert Series. Concert is included with theme park admission. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Geri Mingori Band
With music styles from blues rock to rock and pop, Southern New Jersey's adult contemporary rock group Geri Mingori Band will rock the stands at Six Flags Great Adventure opening the night's performance at 5:30 p.m.
The New Jersey band originated in 1996 by producers and song writers Blue Eagle (vocals and drums) and Geri Mingori (lead vocalist) with their first performance at the Harbor Fest in Atlantic City. The band released their first album Dream 2 Hold On 2 which was a collaboration of two cassettes Dreams and Hold On. The album was released in 2000 and featured 23 songs including "All My Life" and "Hold On." The third CD "The Grass On The Other Side" was released in 2004.
Soon after, the band was recognized for their unique and addictive melodies throughout the tri-state area with opening performances for America, Ivan Neville, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Little Feat and various other well-known, top-producing artists.
The local band is known for staying true to their musical and artistic instincts and has established a dedicated following with a wide-range of listeners. "Our songs are very melody and lyric driven and we like to produce a real mixture of music for our audience that they can identify with," said Geri Mingori.
The band released their latest album Save Yourself on June 26, 2009 in concert at The Shell in Atlantic City. The album, which the group hopes to be their strongest effort yet, features songs "Peasant King," "I Can't Fall Down," "Smile" and "Little Things." The album was produced and recorded by recently launched Humanrecordz Recording Studios, founded by co-owners Blue Eagle and Geri Mingori.
Geri Mingori Band which features Geri Mingori (lead vocalist), Blue Eagle (vocals and drums), Mike Ian (guitarist), Kenneth Todd (keyboard and accordion), Jeff Seykot (base guitar) and vocals by CiBon', Kristina Pruitt and Jim Chiara will captivate the audience with their "catchy" and "additive" tunes from the recent release Save Yourself at 5:30 p.m. opening for Yes and Asia in the Northern Star Arena.
