Six Flags Discovery Kingdom announces appointment of new park president
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom announced today the appointment of Don McCoy as its new park president. McCoy, a long-time veteran of Six Flags Entertainment, has been park president of The Great Escape Theme Park and Lodge properties in Lake George, NY since 2007. Dale Kaetzel, park president since 2010, will be transferring to Atlanta, GA as the new park president for Six Flags’ Atlanta properties – Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water.
“Dale has done an exemplary job at Discovery Kingdom and he was tapped to head the Atlanta properties with the retirement of the current park president there,” said Thomas Iven, Six Flags senior vice president. “We didn’t have to look far for the best candidate to head our most unique property. Don’s experience and knowledge make him an excellent match for Discovery Kingdom’s diversity of offerings.”
McCoy brings a wealth of theme park experience to his new role. Prior to joining The Great Escape, he managed multiple properties as park director of White Water and American Adventures in Atlanta. McCoy began his career with Wet N Wild in Orlando, FL in 1983 and has enjoyed a distinguished career with Six Flags since 1995.
“I’m thrilled to join an exceptional staff and look forward to taking on new challenges at Discovery Kingdom,” said McCoy. “This is an incredible time for the park as Northern California’s best family entertainment destination and an exciting 2013 season on the horizon.”
McCoy is originally from Orlando. He and his wife, Anne, have three children, who will all be joining him in the Bay Area.
