We recently welcomed the successful births of two bouncing baby Atlantic bottlenose dolphins — both males, and both the apple of each of their mother’s eyes. We ran a contest and opened it up for YOU to pick the Hawaiian names in the Dolphin Naming Contest Presented by Hawaiian Airlines.
The contest is now closed. Thank you for the sending in your suggested name — we had an overwhelming response! Please check back to see if your name was selected by a panel of judges at Hawaiian Airlines as the official Hawaiian names of our two baby dolphins!
BOTH BOYS
The first baby was born on May 23 to 23-year-old mother Jasmine. Just 15 days later, 30-year-old Chelsea gave birth to her little boy and today, they spend their days doing what baby dolphins do — swim, sleep, nurse and play together — in a darling display of camaraderie.
You can see them through the windows located at the Merlin’s Dolphin Harbor public viewing area in the main plaza. The foursome are joined by Sadie, an "auntie" to the boys, and all are getting along swimmingly.
DOLPHIN NAMING CONTEST PRESENTED BY HAWAIIAN AIRLINES
The Dolphin Naming Contest presented by Hawaiian Airlines took place from July 1 through July 25, 2010. Members of the public and park guests were invited to submit their choices for the dolphin calves’ Hawaiian names through official entry forms that could be found at the park or on this web site.
Through this contest, we were seeking the Hawaiian names of the two calves. We asked that the name be of Hawaiian origin or in the Hawaiian language, or pertain to Hawaii.
