Six Flags America Offers Free Theme Park Tickets to Promote Literacy
Registration now open for 2011-2012 Read to Succeed Program

Elementary school students have the opportunity to earn free tickets to Six Flags America, the mid-Atlantic’s premier destination for family-friendly fun, through their participation in the 2011-2012 Read to Succeed program. Registration for this year’s program is now open.

Read to Succeed is a free educational program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks and presented in partnership with Discovery Education. The program inspires students in kindergarten through Grade 6 to engage in recreational reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational, nonschool- related reading are eligible to earn a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Parks. Six Flags Theme Parks across the country participate in Read to Succeed.

Teachers may register for the program by visiting discoveryeducation.com/readtosucceed. Students who attend schools within 250 miles of Six Flags America (located at 13710 Central Avenue, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774) are eligible to participate in the 2011-2012 Read to Succeed Program and earn tickets to the theme park which will be valid on select days between June and August 2012. Any teacher with 10 or more students who complete the program this school year will also earn a free ticket to Six Flags America. Registration is open through Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, but teachers are encouraged to register their classes prior to the holidays to give students ample time to complete the required reading.

Discovery Education and Six Flags Theme Parks will host an informational webinar for teachers on Thursday, January 10, 2012 at 7 p.m. The webinar will cover the 2011-2012 Read to Succeed program, providing information about program eligibility and registration. Interested teachers may pre-register for the webinar by visiting discoveryeducation.com/readtosucceed.

Read to Succeed is one of several ways Six Flags America supports local students. The Maryland theme park hosts dedicated educational days each spring, including Physics Day, Math & Science Day, and Performing Arts Days, as well as Outdoor Classroom Days and Celebrate the Arts programs throughout the season. Six Flags America will host Physics Day on Friday, April 20; Math & Science Day will take place on Friday, May 11; and Performing Arts Day will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012.
